Target intelligence / Profile preview
PorA is a major porin protein expressed by most Neisseria meningitidis isolates. It is encoded by the porA gene and contains eight surface-exposed loops with variable regions recognized by subtype-specific antibodies. PorA induces protective bactericidal antibodies and is a major component of outer membrane vesicle (OMV)-based vaccines.
Antibody binding to variable regions, leading to complement activation and bacterial lysis.
