Porcine parvovirus (PPV) is a non-enveloped DNA virus, not a therapeutic target molecule or receptor suitable for drug development. PPV belongs to the family Parvoviridae and is classified in the genus Protoparvovirus as Ungulate protoparvovirus 1. The virus possesses a linear, single-stranded DNA genome of approximately 4-6 kilobases encoding non-structural proteins (NS1 and NS2) involved in viral replication and structural proteins (VP1 and VP2) that form the icosahedral capsid. PPV infects swine and causes economic loss in pig farming through reproductive failure and other clinical manifestations. The virus replicates through a rolling-hairpin mechanism and relies on host cell DNA polymerase machinery for genome amplification. As an infectious agent rather than a cellular protein target, PPV is not amenable to conventional therapeutic targeting strategies used for receptor, enzyme, or transporter-based drug development.
