Potassium ion (gastrointestinal binding) refers to the process and molecular targets involved in the sequestration of potassium ions within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, primarily through the action of potassium-binding agents or resins. These agents are used therapeutically to manage hyperkalemia by preventing intestinal absorption of dietary or endogenous potassium, thereby lowering serum potassium levels.
