PRAME family member 28, pseudogene (PRAMEF28P), is a non-coding DNA sequence classified as a pseudogene based on its sequence similarity to functional PRAME family genes but inability to encode a functional protein[5][7]. Pseudogenes like PRAMEF28P typically arise from gene duplication, retrotransposition, or mutation events that disable normal gene expression and translation[1][2][6][8]. While pseudogenes were originally considered nonfunctional genomic remnants, research has shown that some pseudogenes can regulate the expression of parent genes via RNA-based mechanisms or by serving as miRNA decoys[1][2]. Despite this, PRAMEF28P itself has not been directly implicated in any regulatory, structural, or disease-associated functions, and is not currently considered a therapeutic target[5][7].
