The pre-mRNA of the DMD gene is the unspliced, primary transcript produced from the DMD (dystrophin) gene. It undergoes extensive and complex splicing to generate mature mRNAs that encode dystrophin protein isoforms. Aberrant splicing can lead to Duchenne or Becker muscular dystrophy.
