Primase 2B, pseudogene (PRIM2BP) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence in humans that is homologous to the functional PRIM2 gene, which encodes a subunit of DNA primase. As a pseudogene, PRIM2BP does not encode a functional protein product and is not considered a protein-coding gene. Pseudogenes like PRIM2BP may arise during evolution as duplicated or retrotransposed copies of genes that have acquired disabling mutations, preventing them from being translated into active proteins. Although some pseudogenes in general might occasionally influence gene regulation, such as competing for regulatory RNAs, there is no documented evidence supporting any functional, biological, or disease-associated roles for PRIM2BP itself[3][4][5]. As such, it is not regarded as a therapeutic target and does not serve as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor.
