Proinflammatory cytokines such as **interleukin-6 (IL-6)**, **monocyte chemotactic protein 1 (MCP-1/CCL2)**, and **intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1)** are key mediators produced by immune cells during the inflammatory response. They regulate leukocyte activation/recruitment (**MCP-1**, **ICAM-1**) and drive acute phase reactions (**IL-6**) that amplify inflammation. Overproduction is associated with chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, sepsis (“cytokine storm”), cancer progression/metastasis via enhanced leukocyte infiltration/tumor microenvironment modulation[2][3].
