Protein Denaturation (Lens Protein)

Molecular classification
Protein Aggregation, Conformational Change, Post-translational Modification
01

Overview

Protein denaturation in the lens refers to the unfolding and aggregation of crystallins, the major structural proteins of the eye lens. This process leads to loss of lens transparency and is a primary cause of cataract formation. Denaturation can be triggered by various factors, including heat, pH changes, oxidative stress, and chemical exposure. The disruption of crystallin structure results in light scattering and visual impairment.
