Protein kinase, X-linked pseudogene (ENSG00000274149) is a nonfunctional genomic DNA segment related to the PRKX gene, which encodes a serine/threonine protein kinase. This pseudogene is not transcribed into a functional protein and is considered a vestigial sequence, originating most commonly from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. While the functional PRKX gene plays roles in renal epithelial morphogenesis, myeloid cell differentiation, and has disease associations, its pseudogenes—including those on the X chromosome—do not encode protein and lack established physiological or pathological functions. Pseudogenes are widespread in the genome and are generally nonfunctional; however, recent research suggests that some may act as regulatory noncoding RNAs or be transcribed in certain contexts. There is no evidence for ENSG00000274149 having such a function, and it is not catalogued as a valid therapeutic target.
