Overview

Protein kinase A (PKA) type I is a serine/threonine kinase that plays a critical role in intracellular signaling. It is a heterotetrameric holoenzyme composed of two regulatory subunits (RIα or RIβ) and two catalytic subunits. Activation occurs when cAMP binds to the regulatory subunits, leading to dissociation and release of active catalytic subunits that phosphorylate target proteins, thereby regulating diverse cellular processes.
