Overview

Protein phosphatase 1, catalytic subunit pseudogene represents a processed pseudogene derived from the protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit, specifically from PPP1R2 (protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 2). Pseudogenes of PPP1R2 are present in multiple copies in the human genome (e.g., PPP1R2P1-P9). These pseudogenes are typically not protein-coding; however, some (like PPP1R2P3 and PPP1R2P9) can be transcribed and may even produce peptides detected in human sperm, suggesting a testis-specific function. The canonical catalytic subunit of PP1 (PPP1CA, PPP1CB, PPP1CC) is a key phosphatase involved in many biological processes (glycogen metabolism, muscle contraction, cell cycle, apoptosis, etc.), but the pseudogene itself is not a functional protein, nor a typical drug target[1][2][3]. The locus described by ENSG00000217331 should not be considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter.
