Protein Tyrosine Kinase (Non-Specific)

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Protein Kinase, Non-receptor tyrosine kinase
01

Overview

Non-receptor protein tyrosine kinases (nRTKs) are a family of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of a phosphate group from ATP to tyrosine residues on target proteins. This phosphorylation is crucial for regulating various cellular processes, including signal transduction, cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, migration, and apoptosis. nRTKs play key roles in immune system function. Dysregulation of nRTK activity is implicated in various diseases, including cancers and immunodeficiencies. Major families include Src, Syk, and Abl. Example: c-Src proto-oncogene.
