Overview

MET, also known as the hepatocyte growth factor receptor (HGFR), is a receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a crucial role in cell proliferation, motility, morphogenesis, and survival. Upon binding its ligand, hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), MET dimerizes and autophosphorylates, activating downstream signaling pathways including PI3K/AKT, RAS/MAPK, and STAT. Aberrant MET activation, often through overexpression, amplification, or mutation, contributes to tumorigenesis across various cancers, making it an established therapeutic target.
