Fetal pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell

Molecular classification
Other (cell type; not a molecular target)
01

Overview

Fetal pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells are specialized muscle cells found in the walls of pulmonary arteries during fetal development. They are integral to regulating blood flow by contracting and relaxing and also play a role in developmental vascular remodeling. In disease conditions such as pulmonary hypertension, these cells can undergo abnormal proliferation and contribute to pathological thickening of the vessel wall. Fetal PASMCs are distinguishable by the high expression of ACTA2 and display molecular diversity early in lung development. They are not, however, a "target" in the traditional molecular sense, but rather a cell population of interest for developmental biology and vascular disease research[2][3][5].
