Pulmonary Capillary Bed (Physical Trapping)

Molecular classification
Microvasculature, Capillary Network
01

Overview

The pulmonary capillary bed is a dense network of microvessels in the lungs, primarily responsible for gas exchange between blood and alveolar air. Physical trapping in the pulmonary capillary bed refers to the mechanical retention or restriction of cells or particles—most notably leukocytes (white blood cells)—within these narrow vessels. This phenomenon can contribute both physiologically (filtering) and pathologically (injury risk).
