PYM1 is sometimes hijacked by certain viruses (e.g., flaviviruses) to alter host mRNA regulation[2]. The gene is primarily classified in the exon junction complex associated factor family and does not act as a classical receptor, enzyme, transporter, or primary therapeutic target. There are no established drugs targeting PYM1, and its alterations are not currently used as clinical biomarkers or linked to prominent safety concerns[1][2][5].
