RERG antisense RNA 1 (non-protein coding) (RERG-AS1)

Target
RERG-AS1
Molecular classification
Antisense long non-coding RNA (antisense lncRNA), Non-protein coding RNA, Enhancer RNA (functionally similar to antisense eRNAs in mechanisms)

Overview

RERG antisense RNA 1 (RERG-AS1) is an antisense long non-coding RNA transcribed from the RERG gene locus. Antisense lncRNAs regulate gene expression by various mechanisms, including recruitment of chromatin-modifying enzymes, DNA methylation, RNA-RNA duplex formation, or modulation of mRNA stability and translation. The broader class of antisense lncRNAs plays key roles in oncogenic and tumor suppressor pathways across multiple cancer types. Although lncRNAs like RERG-AS1 are being studied for their role in cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and gene regulation, RERG-AS1 itself is not currently established as a direct therapeutic target, biomarker, or has known drug interactions.

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (typically post-transcriptional or epigenetic)Chromatin remodeling and DNA methylation via recruitment of enzymes (extrapolated from similar antisense lncRNAs)Potential involvement in cell proliferation, invasion, and cancer-related pathways (based on the roles of similar antisense lncRNAs)
