Retinoic acid receptor beta and retinoic acid receptor gamma are ligand-activated nuclear receptors encoded by the RARB and RARG genes, respectively. They function as transcription factors that heterodimerize with retinoid X receptors (RXRs) to bind DNA at retinoic acid response elements, regulating gene expression in response to retinoic acid. These receptors are critical in cell differentiation, morphogenesis, development, and tissue homeostasis.
