Retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and retinoid X receptors (RXRs) (RAR/RXR)

Target
RAR/RXR
Molecular classification
Nuclear receptor, Transcription factor
01

Overview

Retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and retinoid X receptors (RXRs) are a family of nuclear receptors that act as ligand-dependent transcription factors. They regulate gene expression in response to retinoids, such as retinoic acid (tretinoin) and other vitamin A derivatives. RARs and RXRs form heterodimers that bind to specific DNA sequences called retinoic acid response elements (RAREs) to control the transcription of target genes involved in cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis.
