Ribonuclease A family member 2C, pseudogene (RNASE2CP) is a non-protein-coding genomic locus classified as a pseudogene from the ribonuclease A family. Unlike its functional counterpart (RNASE2, eosinophil-derived neurotoxin), RNASE2CP does not produce a protein and therefore does not participate in biochemical or physiological processes such as RNA cleavage or immune activity[3]. Despite sharing aliases (and some sequence similarity) with functional ribonucleases, RNASE2CP is only notable as a genomic sequence and has no recognized role in disease, cell biology, drug interaction, or clinical biomarker applications. RNASE2CP is frequently confused with RNASE2, which encodes the functional protein eosinophil-derived neurotoxin (EDN, also called eosinophil cationic protein), known for its antiviral and immune modulating properties[5]. However, RNASE2CP itself is not a coding gene, has no known associated protein, and should not be considered a functional target or biomarker[3].
