Overview

Ribosomal protein S24, pseudogene 1 is a genomic locus that resembles the functional ribosomal protein S24 (RPS24) gene but does not encode an active protein product. Like other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, it is generally regarded as non-functional. It is annotated as a pseudogene in both human and mouse genomes, with no evidence for a coding role or protein product, and no established connection to human disease or drug pharmacology. The functional RPS24 gene encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, but RPS24 pseudogenes such as RPS24P1 are generally regarded as inactive genomic elements.

Other names

02

Mechanism of action

None (pseudogene, not a therapeutic target)

03

Biological functions

None; pseudogene, not known to have biological function
04

Disease associations

None for the pseudogene itself. Mutations in the functional RPS24 gene (not the pseudogene) are associated with Diamond-Blackfan anemia.
