Ribosyldihydronicotinamide dehydrogenase [quinone] (NQO2, also known as QR2 or NRH:quinone oxidoreductase 2) is a cytosolic flavoprotein enzyme that catalyzes the two-electron reduction of quinones to hydroquinones, using dihydronicotinamide riboside as an electron donor[2][3][7]. It plays a role in detoxification pathways by reducing toxic quinones and is involved in vitamin K-dependent biosynthetic processes such as the gamma-carboxylation of glutamate residues in prothrombin synthesis[1][4][9]. The enzyme is implicated in protection against oxidative stress and is expressed in tissues throughout the body. NQO2 interacts with various drugs (including quinone analogs) and its activity is considered relevant in cancer, neurodegeneration, cardiovascular conditions, and other diseases related to redox homeostasis and detoxification[3][7].
