Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 101 (RNA5SP101) is a non-functional, processed pseudogene—a genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene but lacking the ability to be expressed as a functional RNA molecule. Processed pseudogenes originate via retrotransposition, lacking introns and typically not producing functional RNA or protein. While 5S rRNA is a stable and essential component of the ribosomal large subunit with well-understood structural and translational functions, pseudogenes derived from 5S rRNA such as RNA5SP101 are generally considered non-coding genetic relics, often without functional roles. However, some pseudogenes have regulatory impacts or contribute to disease biology, yet there are currently no specific data linking RNA5SP101 to any such activities or therapeutic implications.
