RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 112 (RNA5SP112) is a genomic DNA segment classified as a pseudogene of the 5S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene. 5S rRNA is an approximately 120-nucleotide structural RNA essential for ribosome function, but pseudogenes like RNA5SP112 are nonfunctional remnants that do not produce mature 5S rRNA or any protein product[2][5][6]. Pseudogenes are typically the result of duplication or retrotransposition events and lack the necessary regulatory sequences or structural integrity for function. While some pseudogenes are transcribed, most lack established biological roles. There is no evidence that RNA5SP112 plays a part in normal physiology or disease, or that it is a therapeutic target. Recent research suggests that some pseudogene transcripts can act as competitive endogenous RNAs or have regulatory effects, but no such activity has been identified for RNA5SP112. More broadly, profiling pseudogene expression is emerging in cancer biomarker research, but RNA5SP112 itself has no established clinical significance[4][6].
