RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 118 (RNA5SP118) is a human unprocessed pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Unlike its functional counterpart, it is not transcribed as a functional RNA and contains mutations that prevent proper regulation or processing[2][6]. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP118 are nonfunctional relics formed by genomic duplication or retrotransposition, and they are commonly found in the human genome. While 5S rRNA itself is a critical component of the ribosomal large subunit, RNA5SP118 does not encode a protein or functional RNA, is not implicated in direct biological activity, and is not a therapeutic target in drug discovery[1][3][6].
