RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 126 is a processed pseudogene of the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family and does not encode a functional RNA product[2][6]. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically lack the regulatory elements and intact sequences required for expression and function. Unlike functional 5S rRNA, which is a structural and functional component of the large ribosomal subunit required for protein synthesis in all domains of life[1][3][5], RNA5SP126 does not participate in ribosome assembly or cellular metabolism. Some pseudogenes are transcribed or have regulatory effects, occasionally contributing to disease or acting as non-coding RNAs in cancer[4], but there is no evidence indicating RNA5SP126 has such roles. Its presence is primarily used as a genomic marker, and it is not considered a druggable or therapeutic target.
