RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 136 (RNA5SP136) is a processed pseudogene derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family[2][5][4]. While functional 5S rRNA genes are essential components of the large ribosomal subunit, facilitating the structural and functional integrity of the ribosome in protein synthesis[1][3], pseudogenes such as RNA5SP136 result from retrotransposition or duplication events, typically lack regulatory regions and protein-coding capacity, and are not transcribed into functional RNA molecules[4]. Processed pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional DNA sequences, although some can have regulatory activity or contribute to genetic diversity. There is currently no evidence that RNA5SP136 is involved in any biological pathways, disease processes, or drug interactions[2][5][4]. It is catalogued in genomic databases to facilitate annotation and study of genome evolution, but is not a target for therapeutic intervention.
