Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 222 is a processed ribosomal RNA (rRNA) pseudogene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences related to functional genes but contain mutations and lack essential regulatory elements, so they do not produce functional transcripts or proteins. This pseudogene originates from retrotransposition of a mature 5S ribosomal RNA transcript, which integrates into the genome as a nonfunctional copy that typically lacks introns and essential regulatory parts. The canonical 5S rRNA is a ~120 nucleotide structural RNA forming a critical component of the large ribosomal subunit and is highly conserved across life, but pseudogenes like RNA5SP222 do not encode ribosomal proteins and are not implicated in ribosome assembly or protein synthesis. RNA5SP222 does not function as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other typical drug target, and is not considered a therapeutic target in pharmacology or clinical research. There is nothing to suggest this pseudogene has specific biological or disease-related functions, nor is it targeted or monitored clinically. If referenced as a molecular target for therapeutic intervention, the entry would be considered incorrect or misleading. Structural and functional information about canonical 5S rRNA is not directly applicable to pseudogenes such as RNA5SP222, although they share sequence similarity. This pseudogene may simply serve as a genomic relic with no current biological role, except possibly as a part of evolutionary analysis or genomic annotation projects.
None (no drugs targeting RNA5SP222; pseudogenes do not represent established therapeutic targets or receptors)
