Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 240 (RNA5SP240) is a processed pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA, identified in genomic annotation projects such as GENCODE and Ensembl[4]. As a pseudogene, it is a non-coding, non-functional RNA produced from a duplication or retrotransposition event of the 5S rRNA gene. Unlike 5S rRNA, which is a critical component of the ribosomal large subunit involved in protein synthesis[1][3][7], RNA5SP240 does not generate functional RNA and does not participate directly in cellular biological processes. Its presence is mainly of interest for genomic architecture and evolutionary studies, not for therapeutic or diagnostic applications.
