Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 243 (RNA5SP243) is a human pseudogene belonging to the family of 5S ribosomal RNA pseudogenes. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they do not encode functional RNAs or proteins. The 5S ribosomal RNA, from which these pseudogenes derive, is a component of the large ribosomal subunit and plays a structural and organizational role within the ribosome; however, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP243 do not contribute to these biological functions due to the accumulation of disabling mutations and loss of transcriptional activity. This pseudogene is not known to have any relevance as a therapeutic target, is not associated with any pharmacological mechanism, and does not serve as a biomarker or have identified roles in disease. The designation as a "pseudogene" reflects that RNA5SP243 is a non-functional relic of the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene family. Pseudogenes are assigned names to reflect their homology to functional coding genes, usually with a “P” designation. RNA5SP243 is not expressed as a functional RNA and is not a receptor, enzyme, or known therapeutic or diagnostic target. No known drugs interact with this pseudogene, and it is not involved in molecular mechanisms relevant to disease or therapy. In summary, RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 243 (RNA5SP243) is a non-functional pseudogene, not a molecular target or biomarker, and has no disease associations or pharmacological relevance.
