RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 247 (RNA5SP247) is a pseudogene annotated in the human genome. It does not encode a functional protein or RNA, but is a non-coding sequence with high similarity to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene, which is an essential component of the ribosome in all domains of life except mitochondrial ribosomes in fungi and animals[1][2]. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes, pseudogenes like RNA5SP247 are typically non-functional due to mutations, truncations, or lack of required regulatory elements. Although some pseudogenes can act as regulatory non-coding RNAs or biomarker candidates through mechanisms such as competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulation or antisense inhibition[4], there is no evidence that RNA5SP247 has any biological function, disease association, or relevance as a therapeutic target. Its existence is primarily as a genomic sequence without known impact on phenotypes or drug response[2][4].
