It does not produce a functional RNA or protein product and is not involved in ribosome structure or function. 5S rRNA is an essential structural component of the ribosome, but this pseudogene is an inactive genomic copy with no known biological activity or therapeutic relevance. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP259 may be transcribed in some cases, but generally lack the ability to encode functional products. Although some pseudogenes in the genome have been found to play roles in gene regulation or as non-coding RNAs, there is no evidence that RNA5SP259 serves such functions.
