RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 263 is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family[2][4][8]. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP263 are nonfunctional genomic sequences that closely resemble functional genes but have lost their gene expression capability or protein-coding potential due to disabling mutations such as frameshifts, premature stop codons, or lack of regulatory sequences[8]. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes—which encode an essential component of the ribosomal large subunit and are vital for protein synthesis—pseudogenes do not produce a functional RNA or protein and have no known direct biological function, disease association, or interaction with drugs[2][8]. The presence of many 5S rRNA pseudogenes in the genome reflects genomic duplication and evolutionary processes, but these pseudogenes are not considered relevant as molecular targets, biomarkers, or disease genes[2][8].
