Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 267 (RNA5SP267) is a human pseudogene derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family[2][3]. As a "pseudogene," it contains sequence similarity to functional 5S ribosomal RNA genes but is generally considered non-functional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements necessary for expression[3][4]. The 5S ribosomal RNA, from which this pseudogene is derived, is a structural component of the ribosome involved in protein synthesis[1][5]. However, RNA5SP267 itself is not known to be transcribed or translated and does not participate in ribosome function. Most ribosomal RNA pseudogenes do not have a known biological or pathological role, though a minority of pseudogenes can sometimes acquire non-coding regulatory functions, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs in rare cases[4]. There is no evidence that RNA5SP267 is a therapeutic target, nor is it directly associated with any disease process, pharmacological agent, or biomarker utility[2][3][4].
