RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 290 (RNA5SP290) is a processed pseudogene locus in the human genome, annotated as non-coding, and derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene, which is a highly conserved component of the ribosomal machinery[2][6][7]. Unlike functional 5S rRNA, RNA5SP290 does not encode an active RNA or protein; pseudogenes like RNA5SP290 result from gene duplication or retrotransposition and lack biological activity. While some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression through competing endogenous RNA functions or siRNA/miRNA interactions, there is no evidence for RNA5SP290 itself contributing to such regulation, disease, or drug response[8].
