RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 300 (RNA5SP300) is classified as a non-coding RNA pseudogene, specifically an rRNA pseudogene predicted by genome annotation pipelines. It is related by sequence to canonical 5S ribosomal RNA genes, which encode the 5S component of the large ribosomal subunit, a critical structural RNA in ribosomes across eukaryotes and prokaryotes. However, unlike active 5S rRNA genes, RNA5SP300 is presumed nonfunctional due to mutations that prevent it from producing a functional RNA molecule or from participating in ribosome biogenesis. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may have regulatory or antisense functions at the RNA level, there is no evidence that RNA5SP300 has any documented biological activity, clinical relevance, or utility as a drug target or biomarker in humans. It is primarily noted as part of the large group of dispersed 5S rRNA pseudogenes within the genome, and not as a protein, enzyme, receptor, transporter, or therapeutic target.
