Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 306 is a processed pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family. As a pseudogene, it is a non-functional genetic element derived from retrotransposition of the parental 5S rRNA gene. It does not encode functional ribosomal RNA, nor does it participate in ribosome structure or function. Processed pseudogenes generally lack promoters and regulatory elements and are not transcribed as functional RNAs, though a growing body of evidence suggests that some pseudogenes may participate in gene regulatory networks through antisense transcription or as competing endogenous RNAs in rare cases. There is currently no evidence that RNA5SP306 serves such biological roles[2][5]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, enzyme, receptor, or other druggable protein family member.

Biological functions

No direct protein-coding or enzymatic function; pseudogenes can sometimes regulate parental gene expression at the RNA level, but specific regulatory activity for this pseudogene is not described
03

Disease associations

Other: Pseudogene expression can be linked to cancer and other disorders in some cases, but no direct disease association is known for RNA5SP306 itself
