RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 317 (RNA5SP317) is a human, non-coding pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA family. Pseudogenes such as RNA5SP317 are genomic sequences resembling functional genes but typically lack protein-coding or direct regulatory function due to sequence divergence or disruptive mutations. While the parent molecule (5S ribosomal RNA) is an integral structural component of the large ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis and ribosome assembly, pseudogenes like RNA5SP317 are generally considered non-functional. Emerging research suggests that pseudogene expression can influence cancer subtypes and may exert regulatory effects via RNA-mediated pathways, but no direct functional role has been established for RNA5SP317 itself in human biology or disease at present.
