Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 333 (RNA5SP333) is a pseudogene identified in the human genome and part of a large family of 5S ribosomal RNA pseudogenes[2][4][6]. Unlike functional 5S ribosomal RNA genes, which code for an RNA that is a structural component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit and is essential for ribosome assembly and function[1][3], pseudogenes such as RNA5SP333 contain sequence similarity to functional 5S rRNA genes but have accumulated mutations that prevent transcription or produce non-functional transcripts[2][4][6]. Pseudogenes are generally considered non-coding, do not encode proteins or functional RNA products, and are not direct drug targets[4][6]. There is no evidence that RNA5SP333 is directly involved in any disease, interacts with drugs, or serves as a clinically relevant biomarker. Its nomenclature and identity as a pseudogene conform to the standards set by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC)[2].

Biological functions

Other (No independent biological function as a pseudogene; functional 5S rRNA is involved in ribosome structure, but not the pseudogene copy)
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease association; pseudogenes in general may act as molecular decoys or regulators but evidence is sparse and not established for this gene)
