Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 336 (RNA5SP336) is a human genomic pseudogene related to 5S ribosomal RNA, a component of the large ribosomal subunit critical for protein synthesis[1][2][4]. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes, RNA5SP336 has lost its coding capacity due to mutations and does not contribute to the formation of ribosomes or to protein synthesis[6]. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP336 are derived from ancestral gene duplication or retrotransposition events; they retain sequence similarity to their functional counterparts but are typically transcriptionally silent and non-functional, though some pseudogenes may play regulatory roles in gene expression in rare cases[6][8]. There is currently no evidence that RNA5SP336 encodes a therapeutic target or plays a direct functional role in human biology or disease.
