RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 341 (RNA5SP341) is a non-functional genomic DNA sequence in humans that is homologous to the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Like other pseudogenes, RNA5SP341 does not produce a functional RNA or protein product and is not transcribed under normal conditions. Pseudogenes of ribosomal RNAs typically arise from reverse transcription and genomic insertion events and serve no known cellular function[8][6][7]. They are distinguished from active rRNA genes by characteristic mutational inactivation or truncations and are used mainly as evolutionary or genomic markers rather than as biological effectors. In summary, RNA5SP341 is a rRNA pseudogene and not a true target by any drug, therapeutic, or biological function criteria.
