Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 352 (RNA5SP352) is a non-coding RNA gene classified as a processed pseudogene in the human genome[2][4][8]. It is related to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family but is distinguished by characteristic mutations, truncations, or loss of function that prevent it from encoding a functional 5S rRNA molecule[8]. The 5S rRNA gene family typically encodes the 5S ribosomal RNA, a crucial structural component of the large ribosomal subunit essential for ribosome assembly and protein synthesis[1][3][5], but processed pseudogenes such as RNA5SP352 are inactive. These rRNA pseudogenes arise from reverse transcription and genome integration, often lacking regulatory elements or correct sequences for transcription[8]. Although some pseudogenes have been implicated in regulatory or disease contexts by acting as decoys for miRNAs or having differential expression patterns in cancer, there is no evidence for direct biological function, disease involvement, or drug interaction for RNA5SP352 in the literature[6]. RNA5SP352 is not considered a therapeutic target. It is not a receptor, enzyme, or other drug target, nor is it involved directly in disease biology or used as a biomarker. Its presence is a feature of ribosomal RNA gene evolution and genomic architecture in humans.
