Unlike the functional 5S ribosomal RNA, which is an essential component of the large ribosomal subunit and necessary for protein synthesis in cells[1][3], pseudogenes such as RNA5SP377 do not produce functional RNA molecules and are generally considered non-coding genetic elements, often resulting from reverse transcription and genomic integration of parental 5S rRNA copies[6]. They lack introns and frequently accumulate sequence changes that prevent them from functioning as true genes[2][6]. There are no current reports linking RNA5SP377 to any disease, regulatory function, or therapeutic targeting strategies.
