RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 390 (RNA5SP390) is a human pseudogene related to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene family, located on chromosome 15[2][4]. As a pseudogene, RNA5SP390 is a non-functional, non-coding DNA segment resembling the functional 5S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, which are structural RNAs involved in ribosome assembly and function in protein translation[1][3][6]. However, pseudogenes like RNA5SP390 lack the ability to encode functional rRNA and do not play a known biological or disease-related role[6]. Pseudogenes arise from duplication or retrotransposition events, followed by the accumulation of disabling mutations. They are generally regarded as "genomic fossils" and not considered viable molecular drug targets, receptors, or modulators of cellular processes[6]. There is no evidence of drugs, biomarkers, or therapeutic or diagnostic utility for this gene.
