RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 412 (RNA5SP412) is a non-coding RNA segment in the human genome that resembles the 5S ribosomal RNA gene but has lost its ability to generate a functional RNA molecule. Pseudogenes such as RNA5SP412 arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and subsequently accumulate disabling mutations, preventing them from producing functional gene products[6]. While some pseudogenes may exert regulatory functions, most—including RNA5SP412—are not functional and are not considered relevant as drug targets or biomarkers[5][6][2]. This pseudogene does not encode a protein or contribute directly to ribosomal structure or function, unlike the canonical 5S ribosomal RNA[1][3].
