RNA5SP414
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, rRNA pseudogene, non-coding RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 414 (RNA5SP414) is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome that arose from the reverse transcription and insertion of a 5S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) transcript[3][4]. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP414 lack known protein-coding potential or canonical biological function because they typically accumulate disabling mutations or lack necessary regulatory elements[2][4]. While the parent 5S rRNA is an essential component of the large ribosomal subunit and is involved in the structural organization of the ribosome as well as possible signaling between functional centers[1][5][7], pseudogenes themselves are generally considered non-functional genomic elements[2][3][4]. However, recent research suggests some pseudogenes may have potential regulatory roles or be implicated in disease processes at the RNA level[6]. No specific functional, therapeutic, or biomarker role exists for RNA5SP414, and it is not recognized as a drug or therapeutic target.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable

03

Biological functions

None established for the pseudogene; its parent (5S rRNA) is part of the ribosome, but pseudogenes do not function in ribosome biogenesis
04

Disease associations

No direct implication; some pseudogenes have been investigated for roles in gene regulation and cancer biology collectively, but there is no evidence that RNA5SP414 itself has a direct disease role
