RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 416 (RNA5SP416)

Target
RNA5SP416
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA pseudogene, rRNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 416 is an rRNA pseudogene found in the human genome. Like other rRNA pseudogenes, it is derived from the 5S ribosomal RNA gene, which in its functional form is a structural component of the large subunit of the ribosome and involved in ribosome assembly and function. Pseudogenes such as RNA5SP416 typically arise through either gene duplication or retrotransposition, accumulating mutations that prevent them from producing functional RNA or protein. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles at the RNA level, the RNA5SP416 locus does not encode a protein or have any documented direct biological function, disease association, or therapeutic application. Its identification is relevant in genome annotation rather than drug discovery or biomarker development.

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes may sometimes be transcribed and possibly regulate their parent gene’s expression via RNA-based mechanisms, e.g., antisense transcript interaction, but no specific regulatory function is documented for RNA5SP416)
03

Disease associations

Other (In general, pseudogenes can sometimes impact diseases via indirect regulation but no specific disease association is documented for RNA5SP416)
