RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 426 (RNA5SP426) is a pseudogene—a non-functional copy or fragment—of a 5S ribosomal RNA gene[2][4]. Unlike canonical 5S ribosomal RNA, which is a crucial structural component of the large ribosomal subunit in eukaryotic ribosomes and is necessary for protein synthesis[1][3][5], pseudogenes such as RNA5SP426 typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and lack protein-coding or structural function due to accumulated disruptive mutations[4][6]. There is no evidence that RNA5SP426 produces a functional RNA or protein. While some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects at the RNA level, for example through antisense interactions, there are no known functional or therapeutic roles for RNA5SP426. It is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction partner. Its main relevance is as a genomic sequence annotated as a pseudogene, not as a functional molecular target in cellular or disease biology[2][4].
