RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 43 (RNA5SP43) is a member of a large family of 5S ribosomal RNA pseudogenes in the human genome[2][4][7]. Unlike canonical 5S rRNA, which is an essential component of the large ribosomal subunit and required for effective protein synthesis[1][3][5], RNA5SP43 is a processed pseudogene—a sequence that resembles the 5S rRNA gene but is generally not functional. It is found at chromosomal location 1p34.3 (genomic coordinates 1:37264677-37264786) and is classified as a noncoding rRNA pseudogene[2][4]. Pseudogenes like RNA5SP43 usually result from gene duplication or retrotransposition and tend to accumulate disabling mutations over time, rendering them incapable of producing functional products[10]. While most rRNA pseudogenes are transcriptionally inactive and do not contribute to ribosome biogenesis, there is growing recognition that some pseudogenes in the human genome may be transcribed and could exert subtle regulatory effects—such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs)—in rare circumstances[6][8]. However, no evidence specifically links RNA5SP43 to any canonical biological function, disease, or drug interaction, and it is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other typical pharmacological target. In summary, RNA5SP43 is not a functional biological target; it is a noncoding pseudogene that does not encode a protein or active RNA and is not relevant to therapeutic drug targeting or biomarker-driven medicine[2][4][7].
