Overview

RNA, 5S ribosomal pseudogene 444 (RNA5SP444) is an annotated processed pseudogene in the human genome, originating from a retrotransposed copy of the 5S ribosomal RNA gene. While functional 5S rRNA is a key component of the large ribosomal subunit and plays essential roles in protein synthesis, pseudogenes like RNA5SP444 have lost their protein-coding capacity due to mutations and lack conventional promoter elements. Processed pseudogenes typically integrate at new genomic locations, may contain a poly(A) tail, and do not encode functional RNA or protein products. Although some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects by acting as miRNA sponges or through antisense interactions, there is currently no evidence that RNA5SP444 has such functions or clinical relevance[2][3][4]. As a processed rRNA pseudogene, it is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or any other therapeutic target. Its inclusion in target lists or drug discovery pipelines is incorrect[3][4].

Mechanism of action

None. There are no drugs or therapeutic mechanisms related to this pseudogene

03

Biological functions

No direct biological function; as a processed pseudogene, it is typically non-functional and does not encode a structural or enzymatic roleMay participate in RNA-level regulatory roles as described for some pseudogenes (for example, acting as miRNA sponges or antisense regulators), but there is no evidence of such function for RNA5SP444 specifically
04

Disease associations

None established for RNA5SP444. In general, several pseudogenes can act as competitive endogenous RNAs or contribute to gene regulation in cancer and other diseases, but such roles have not been described for this particular pseudogene
05

Safety considerations

None. Not used therapeutically
06

Interacting drugs

None. No drugs interact with this pseudogene, as it is not a therapeutic target
07

Biomarkers

None known for patient selection or monitoring
